BRAND BROTHERS

Bockenheim, Pfalz, Germany

We’ve long admired the work of Pfalz brothers Jonas and Daniel Brand. Starting in 2014 at the ripe age of 19, representing his family’s fifth generation at the 20 hectare estate, Daniel began the long process of transitioning to organic viticulture and natural winemaking. He was joined by Jonas a few years later, and they now run the domaine as a team, taking care of everything in the cellar and in their extensive plantings.

Located a few kilometers from the noted viticultural center Flörsheim-Dalsheim, they have a real bounty of varietal and ecological diversity to exploit. Zesty and complex Riesling and Pinot Blanc bottlings, an array of kaleidoscopic and delicious pet nats, as well as a handful of quaffable and joyful reds complete their extensive range.

Since the start of this decade, the Brand wines have become ubiquitous in European natural wine capitals widely appreciated both for their vibrant complexity and their approachable price and profile. They are very much at the center of a broader movement in Germany, and their story is very much part of a broader generational turn towards organic viticultural and natural wine. They are a foundational producer in this movement, and the wines have only improved more and more since the brothers took over.

As a French-focused importer, we’ve been careful not to jump into other countries too hastily. We wanted to wait for the perfect fit to come along; a wine that our producers love to drink, and one that speaks to our overall ethos as a company. With Brand, we found that match, and couldn’t be more excited to welcome the brothers to the Terrestrial family.
